Chief Minister of Delhi has launched an initiative — Red Light On, Gaadi Off. The initiative has been launched under the “Yuddh, Pradushan Ke Viruddh” campaign of the government.
Red Light On, Gaadi Off initiative
- Delhi CM has stated that there are one crore vehicles registered in Delhi out of which if 10 lakh turn off their ignition at traffic signals, around tonnes of PM10 will reduce in a year and PM 2.5 will decrease by0.4 tonnes.
- Experts had calculated that the initiative could lead to a decrease in PM 10 levels by 1.5 tonnes and PM 2.5 by 0.4 tonnes
- The experts noted that when a car is in idling mode, it emits a lot more pollutants than when travelling
