In news– Recently, Crimea-born Russian Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin has been banned (as per Article 2.2.10 of the FIDE code of ethics) by the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission for six months from participating in any FIDE-sanctioned chess tournament for his comments on Russia’s ongoing military offensive in Ukraine.
What is Article 2.2.10 of the FIDE code of ethics?
- Article 2.2.10 of the FIDE code of ethics deals with cases where a matter is said to have brought disrepute to FIDE, its federations or the game of chess.
- Disciplinary action in accordance with this Code of Ethics will be taken in cases of occurrences which cause the game of chess, FIDE or its federations to appear in an unjustifiable unfavorable light and in this way damage its reputation.

- The International Chess Federation or World Chess Federation, commonly referred to by its French acronym FIDE, is an international organization based in Switzerland that connects the various national chess federations and acts as the governing body of the sport of chess, and it regulates all international chess competitions.
