In News: A three-day Border Co-ordination Conference between officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) concluded in Kolkata on Friday, where the border guarding forces of both the countries agreed on strengthening their coordinated border management plan.
Coordinated Border Management Plan
- India and Bangladesh share 4096.7 km. of border, which is the longest land boundary that India shares with any of its neighbours.
- The Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) signed maintenance of peace and tranquility along the India-Bangladesh border.
- Aims to synergize the efforts of both the Border Guarding Forces for checking cross border illegal activities and crimes as well as for
- Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) that includes Simultaneous Coordinated Patrols (SCP), sharing of intelligence, identification of vulnerable areas and increased frequency of meetings at all levels.
Border Security Force (BSF)
- Primary Border guarding force of India.
- It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India.
- It was established in the wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965.
- Its head is designated as a Director-General (DG), since its raising has been an officer from the Indian Police Service.
- BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian Territories.
- In March 2011, Ministry of Home Affairs adopted a uniform nomenclature as CAPF for 5 forces i.e Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and BSF
