In news- Vayoshreshtha Samman-2021 awards was presented to senior citizens on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons held at New Delhi.
About Vayoshreshtha Samman-
- Vayoshreshtha Samman is a National award instituted by the Ministry intended to be conferred on eminent senior citizens and institutions involved in rendering distinguished services for the cause of elderly persons especially indigent senior citizens.
- These awards are presented as part of the celebration of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP).
- The recipients are drawn from diverse fields.
- The Awards are given to institutions/organisations/individuals from any part of the country.
- Nominations are invited from Governmental and Non-Governmental Agencies, Members of the National Council for Senior Citizens; Renowned Apex Chambers like FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, NASSCOM, PHDCCI etc…
- On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons as recorded in Resolution 45/106.
- The holiday was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991.
- The theme for International Day of Older Persons 2021 is ‘Digital Equity for All Ages’.
