- It was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1974 and abounds in wild critters typical to South-east Asia

- The Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 88.4 88.4 sq. km in Udupi District, Karnataka.
- It is named after the presiding deity “Lord Someshwara” of the famed Someshwara temple located within the sanctuary.

- Vegetation: The sanctuary is mostly made up of evergreen forests, semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests.
- Two unconnected parts make up the sanctuary, the smaller part is situated in the Southwest of the major part. To the Southeast of the sanctuary lies the Kudremukh National Park.
- Fauna: Tiger, Leopard, Wild Pig, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Wild Dog, Jackal, Gaur, Barking Deer, Lion Tailed Macaque, Bonnet Macaque and Common Langur. King Cobra, Python and Monitor Lizard represent the reptile population.
