Increasing population, production and productivity
The estimated milk production in Bovine during 2015-16 was 150.10 Million Metric tons. The Action plan aims to increase the production to 275.89 million metric tons by 2020-21 and up to 300MT by 2023- 24. At the same time, it is also aimed to enhance the average productivity of milk from the present level of 4.85 kg per day to 6.77 kg per day per animal. Figures 6-9 illustrate the trend of the number of animals in milk, production, and productivity over the years and the projection for 2020-21.
Required number of animals in milk
To achieve the targeted number of animals in milk, production and productivity of milk, a total of 97.45 million bovines have to be bred by 2020-21.
