- Why in news?
- The Indian army has installed the CAAQS in its Fort William station in Kolkata as a part of “Go Green” initiative.
- About CAAQS:
- It is also known as an automatic monitoring station.
- It will monitor the air quality of a city on a real time basis.
- Its ratings will be a benchmark of air quality measurement.
- It will continuously measure air pollutants throughout the year in a continuous manner.
- The air pollutants measured are as follows: SO2, NO, NO2, NH3, CO, O3, CO3, VOC, PM10 and PM2.5.
- In addition, it also displays wind speed, direction, ambient temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, barometric pressure and rain gauge.
- The data can be remotely monitored on the internet and collated into various desired formats.
