Why in news?
- It’s a new mineral unearthed in South Africa.
- The mineral is found in the mantle of earth, covering 80 per cent of the volume of the earth.
- It has high niobium, potassium, lanthanum and cerium elements, all of which are industrially useful rare earth elements.
- The single grain found is coloured in dark green and opaque.
- The mineral was named after Victor Moritz Goldschmidt, a Norwegian physicist and a founder of Modern Geochemistry.
