Recently, the Ministry AYUSH announced that the upcoming new campus of the National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), Pune will be called ‘Nisarg Gram’.

- Invoking recollections of Mahatma Gandhi’s famous Nature Cure campaign of 1946 at the “Nisarg Upchar” Ashram in Uruli Kanchan village near Pune, the upcoming new campus of National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), Pune will be called “Nisarg Gram”.
- Located at a distance of 15 Km from NIN’s present premises at Bapu Bhavan, the new Institution will be future-ready, with many novelties and innovations incorporated in the project per se and the curriculum of the Naturopathy courses.
- To start with, the new institute’s curricula will be prepared in the light of National Education Policy, 2020.
- Bachelors and Masters courses in Naturopathy and allied disciplines will be the focal programmes at Nisarg Gram
National Institute of Naturopathy and its association with Mahatma Gandhi
- It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH is the inheritor of a unique Gandhian heritage, having been developed out of a Nature Cure institution of which the Mahatma was one of the founders.
- National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN) is registered under the Societies Registration Act., 1860
- This institute has a “Governing Body” headed by the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare as its President.
- NIN is located in a historical building called “Bapu Bhavan” which is situated at Tadiwala Road, Pune.
- “Bapu Bhavan” is named after Mahatma Gandhi, who stayed here for 156 days and made this institution his home whenever he was in Pune from the year 1934.
- Formerly this place was known as “Nature Cure Clinic and Sanatorium” which was run by late Dr. Dinshaw K. Mehta.
- The All India Nature Cure Foundation Trust was established in 1945 in this Centre by Dr. Dinshaw K. Mehta. Mahatma Gandhi became its life long Chairman.
- Gandhiji conducted his Naturopathy experiments and organised National and International activities while staying here.
- In his memory, the Government of India established National Institute of Naturopathy in 1986 at that place
- The present complex was handed over to Govt. of India on 17-03-1975 by Dr. Dinshaw K. Mehta for starting the National Institute of Naturopathy.
