In news–The Prime Minister of India has launched Mission Schools of Excellence in Gujarat recently.
About the Mission-
- The Mission has been conceived with a total outlay of 10,000 Crores & it is partially funded by the World Bank.
- It is aimed at strengthening the education infrastructure in the State through setting up of new classrooms, smart classrooms, computer labs and overall upgradation of infrastructure in schools.
- Under its first phase, school infrastructure projects worth over ₹5,567 crore will be undertaken.
- The project will see setting up of 50,000 classrooms in addition to 1.5 lakh smart classrooms, 20,000 computer laboratories and 5,000 Atal Tinkering labs in government schools.
Exemplar schools-
- The Union Finance Minister during her budget speech in 2021 proposed to convert 15000 schools into exemplar schools.
- Under this initiative one primary and one elementary school in each block and one secondary and one senior secondary school in each district will be developed as schools of excellence that are strengthened, empowered and capacitated to provide – a safe and stimulating learning environment where a wide range of learning experiences are offered, and where good physical infrastructure and appropriate resources conducive to learning are available to all students.
- Few Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalays will also be developed as exemplars for showcasing implementation of NEP 2020 and emerging as schools of excellence.
