In news– Every year, World Patient Safety Day(WPSD) is observed worldwide on September 17 in a bid to raise awareness regarding the safety of patients.
History of the day-
- World Patient Safety Day was established in May 2019 when the World Health Assembly passed a resolution on global action on patient safety.
- The overriding goal of the Day is to increase commitment to medical safety, and promote global action to improve patient safety and reduce patient harm.
- The day was embraced to diminish such global healthcare issues and around 190 nations who are members of WHO, support the foundation.
- ‘Medication Safety’ was selected as the theme for WPSD 2022, with the slogan ‘Medication Without Harm’.
- As part of the day WHO is conducting a campaign that is envisaged to provide the needed impetus to consolidate the efforts of the existing WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm launched by WHO in 2017.
