In news– Recently, the Prime Minister of India virtually addressed the plenary session of the 6th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) held on 3 September 2021 at Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia.
Key highlights of the 6th EEF-
- The PM reiterated India’s commitment as part of its “Act East Policy’ of being a reliable partner of Russia in this regard.
- The PM stressed on the importance of greater economic and commercial engagement between the two sides in line with the ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’.
- A special and privileged strategic partnership was announced by the two countries in 2010.
- Recalling the visit of Chief Ministers of Indian states to EEF-2019, PM extended an invitation to Governors of the 11 regions of Russian Far East to visit India.
- It may be recalled that the Indian Prime Minister was the Chief Guest for the 5th EEF in 2019, the first by an Indian Prime Minister.
About Eastern Economic Forum (EEF)-
- The Eastern Economic Forum is an international platform aiming to foster communication and cooperation between members of the business community, political figures, experts, and journalists from Russia and the Asia-Pacific region.
- It
- was established by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in 2015 to support the economic development of Russia’s Far East and to expand international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Far East Economic Forum is sponsored by the organizing committee appointed by Roscongress, an association of the Russian Government, which also sponsors other international forums, such as St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The organizing committee of the Eastern Economic Forum is chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
